If you’ve spent any time shopping for a vibrator, chances are you’ve come across the Magic Wand. It’s one of the most recognizable pleasure products out there, and for good reason! Known for its deep, rumbly vibrations and impressive power, the Magic Wand has earned its reputation as a fan favorite. But with several different models available, figuring out which one is right for you can feel a little overwhelming.
Here’s the good news: there’s no wrong choice, but there might be a better choice for your body, budget, and how you like to play.

For most people, I’d recommend the Magic Wand Rechargeable. You get that classic full-size Magic Wand power without being attached to an outlet, plus a soft silicone head. If you’re looking for serious power without spending as much, the Magic Wand Plus is a fantastic option, especially if you don’t mind a cord. Want something you can take into the shower or bath? The Magic Wand Waterproof has you covered, and it also happens to be their most powerful model. And if you’re short on storage space, travel frequently, or simply prefer something smaller, the Magic Wand Micro packs that signature rumble into a surprisingly compact 4.5-inch design.

Personally, I think one of the biggest mistakes people make when shopping for a vibrator is assuming that more power automatically means more pleasure. As someone who’s spent years testing toys and helping people find their perfect match, I can tell you that comfort, convenience, and the type of stimulation you enjoy matter just as much as intensity.
Whether you’re buying your very first wand or looking to upgrade an old favorite, I’m breaking down the differences between the models so you can find the Magic Wand that makes the most sense for you. Because the best vibrator isn’t necessarily the biggest, strongest, or most expensive one. It’s the one you’ll actually enjoy using.
I’ve reviewed the Magic Wand Waterproof and the Magic Wand Micro on their own. This post puts the whole family side by side so you can stop opening twelve tabs.

Original HV-260: the classic, and the cheapest full-size wand
This is the one your aunt’s friend whispered about. It plugs into the wall, has two speeds (about 5,000 and 6,000 RPM), and has run on the same basic design for more than 50 years. It’s 12 inches long with a 2¼-inch head and weighs 1.2 pounds.
Buy it if: you want the iconic wand for the lowest price and don’t mind a cord.
Skip it if: you want fine control. Two settings is a big jump from low to high. The vinyl head is also less silky than silicone and harder to keep clean, so a lot of people pop a silicone attachment or a condom over it.

Plus HV-265: the best value for raw power
The Plus fixes the Original’s two biggest complaints. It swaps the vinyl head for body-safe silicone and gives you four power levels, from 2,700 to 6,300 RPM. That means a real gentle setting for warming up. It’s still corded, so it never dies mid-session, and the cord detaches for storage.
Buy it if: you want the most power per dollar and your wand mostly lives by the bed.
Skip it if: you hate cords, or you want to use it in the bath.

Rechargeable HV-270: the one most people should buy
Same top speed as the Plus (6,300 RPM) and same silicone head, but cordless, with up to 3 hours per charge. It also adds four vibration patterns on top of four intensity levels. If the battery runs low, you can plug it in and keep going. The New York Times Wirecutter named it its top massager in 2022.
Buy it if: you want full-size wand power without being tied to an outlet, especially for partner play where a cord gets in the way.
Skip it if: you’re on a budget. It costs about $55 more than the Plus for the same power.

Waterproof: the strongest wand they make
The Waterproof is the top of the line. It’s cordless, IPX7 waterproof (safe to submerge in the bath), and reaches 7,000 RPM, which is the highest of any Magic Wand. It’s made in Japan, with four intensity levels and four patterns.
Buy it if: you want it in the shower or bath, or you’ve used other wands and want more.
Skip it if: you’re new to wands. Even the Plus’s top speed is more than a lot of people ever use, and at $209 this is a lot to pay for power you might not need.

Mini HV-135: a smaller full wand
The Mini is 9.6 inches long with a 1.9-inch silicone head, three speeds (3,500, 5,000 and 6,000 RPM) and up to 2.5 hours per charge. It’s for people who want something that still feels like a wand but packs smaller.
Buy it if: you want a wand for travel or smaller hands, and you like the classic wand shape.
Skip it if: you want the most portable option. The Micro is half the size for less money.

Micro HV-60: pocket-sized, and the cheapest Magic Wand
The Micro squeezes the Magic Wand rumble into a 4.5-inch body that weighs about 3 ounces. It reaches 6,500 RPM, faster on paper than the Rechargeable, with three speeds, four functions and up to 3 hours on a USB-C charge. At $71.45, it’s the least expensive Magic Wand on the list.
Buy it if: you travel, you want something discreet, or you want to see what the wand hype is about without spending much.
Skip it if: you want the broad, full-body coverage of a full-size head.

FAQ
What’s the difference between the Magic Wand Original and the Plus? The Plus has a body-safe silicone head instead of vinyl, four power levels instead of two, and a lower starting speed of 2,700 RPM, so it’s easier to warm up with. Both plug into the wall.
Is the Magic Wand Micro as strong as the full-size wand? On paper it spins faster (6,500 RPM) than the Rechargeable (6,300). The full-size head covers more area, though. [CARLY: one sentence on how they compare in practice.]
Which Magic Wand is waterproof? Only the Magic Wand Waterproof, which is rated IPX7 and is safe in the bath or shower. Keep the plug-in models and the Rechargeable away from water.
Which Magic Wand is best for beginners? The Micro or the Plus. The Micro is cheap and small. The Plus has a genuinely gentle lowest setting.
